radical self love projectSuccessfully completed writing one self love blog post every day for an entire YEAR!!!! There are so many things I could write about today and I have given careful and thoughtful consideration for them all.

  • I considered writing the highlights of the year.
  • I considered writing the top lessons of the year.
  • I considered not writing much at all- total honesty and transparency ūüėČ
  • I considered writing a simple celebratory post.
  • I considered just writing another self love lesson.
  • I considered sharing the impact of a year of self love on my relationship.

All of these were great however they didn’t feel quite right. Today is a significant day for me. For the past few years I have been levelling up and giving myself these “challenges” in order to grow and expand the person I know myself to be. This 365 Day RSL blog project was no exception.

To show up and create a blog post every day for an entire year took some serious commitment and dedication. It took bravery, honesty, transparency. It required me to face my shadow and deal with my shit. It called me to step into my role as a leader and a teacher and really own my place in the world. This project supported me in getting clear on who I am and what I am truly meant to be doing in the world. And it brought me face to face with my biggest supporter and my biggest nemesis- and coming to the profound realization that both happened to be me.

Today’s post I am going to share the biggest transformation that has taken place over the past year.

Unravelling The Ultimate Ego Sabotage Through Self Love

In one year I’ve done a hell of a lot of healing, forgiving, loving and moving forward.

But there was one thing that has held me back in all areas of my life and in the span of this project I was brought face to face with this disempowering mechanism. This is what I call “the ultimate ego sabotage” and I have had the opportunity to look it in the face with loving and kind eyes and find ways to gently and lovingly put it to rest.

That sabotage was an old familiar story of “not feeling like it”. How many times in my life have I used this line as a way to manipulate, get out of commitments and generally not show up for life? More than I can count.

Giving my word to a project of this magnitude brought me face to face with this disempowering habit every single day. Yes every single day it reared it’s face. Some days more than others but it always did.

radicalselfloveMy new self love habitual patterns were the only saving grace. If I had allowed my ego’s justifications or behaviours to run the show I would have quit. Something would have stopped me along the way. But because of my solid Radical Self Love foundation I was able to maintain my commitment even in the most challenging of times.

In my past my ego didn’t have to work very hard to get me to stop going down the path of transformation. It would pull the “oh I’m tired” excuse or something very similar and that would be enough of a reason to not show up for life.

As I grew and expanded my awareness my ego took to instigating physical pains in attempts to prevent me from showing up somewhere that would inevitably be a cause for my further transformation. The most memorable occurance of this function showed up a few years ago when I was heading out to be a production supervisor for the Advanced Course through Landmark Education. This role at the time called me to step up and lead a team of peeps and also create the space for all the people in the seminar to feel safe to dive into their own transformation- not an easy role by far. The morning of I was leaving my house and literally tripped over my own feet and fell down the steep stairs of my house. In the past this would have been enough for me to not show up- but I had done enough work to get acquainted with my ego that I knew it was just trying to take me out in any way possible to avoid my own immanent growth. Pretty bold stuff.

This year brought me into a whole new level of understanding my tricky ego. The function remains the same it’s just the measures and characteristics that change. Writing a self love blog every day for a year stretched me. Some days the words flowed, inspiration was at an all time high and some days it was fucking hard. I was emotional, my world was crashing around me and some how I managed to pull it together long enough to get real, get transparent and transform. In this year I have come to learn my ego’s new game is to take things incredibly personal.

I honestly at times couldn’t believe just how ridiculous I was being but somehow I couldn’t manage to stop it- that is until I realized this behaviour was a new form of my old ego friend. Once I became aware of this mechanism I was able to notice it’s take over sooner and become less reactive and more responsive to life.

This self love blog was ultimate training in playing bigger, creating something from nothing and standing for something way greater than myself. I knew my key to healing my heart was rooted in finding something I cared more about than the pain I was feeling. That “something” is this community, that “something” is supporting people in having more deliciously juicy relationships to themselves, to their lives and to the people in their lives. That “something” is self love.

How To Keep Up The Self Lovin On Vacation- Day 364: 365 Radical Self Love Project

radical self love kelsey grantVacations used to mean a free for all in my world- reckless abandon for my routines, health and well being. My late teens and early 20’s were seriously dedicated to being the life of the party and testing my body and mind to push to the limits of what was possible and healthy.

Having been consciously immersed into the world of Radical Self Love for the past year and a half my approach to vacations has dramatically shifted as well. Over the past year and a half I have come to really understand I love feeling good. My habits and routines are in place not to limit me or restrict me but to empower me into feeling good more of the time.

Eating really crappy food isn’t really much of a exciting thing anymore as my body reacts pretty intensely to large amounts of processed foods. Now this isn’t to say I never indulge. Of course I do- I just don’t over do it like I used to. Vacations used to be the time when I really would go over board and justify it to myself because hell, I was on vacation.

With my ever growing self confidence, self love and self value I’ve created a new way of vacationing for myself that clearly works and has me continue to rock out as my high vibin self.

How to keep up the self lovin on vacation

1. Pre planning.

A little planning goes a long way. In the case of this particular vacation the day before we left I was finishing up a 3.5 day juice cleanse. Knowing my body would have to be eased back into whole foods I made a declaration to our crew that I would be responsible for my own eats and then I did a little meal planning. I found a local natural/whole food market in one of the towns we drove through and stocked up on organic local produce and gentle whole foods that would compliment my cleanse and be easy to prepare.

Back in the day I likely would have had the same desire to eat clean but I would have been way to self conscious and insecure of voice my desires. What I learned this time around is no one else really cared that I wanted to do my own thing nor did anyone negatively question me. Because I owned it from a place of peace, inner alignment and love my positive inention was picked up by my peeps and respected.

2. Find the local gems.

Do a little research either before arriving or when you get there to suss out places that are in alignment with your lifestyle. Conveniently there is a raw, vegan, gluten free bakery literally down the street from where we are staying. We are in a seriously small town and I still managed to find an alternative that allows me to enjoy dessert just in a super healthy capacity. The gems are always around- it’s up to you to find them.

3. Stay active- just change it up.

My body is used to regular movement and exercise however often on vacation there isn’t a gym or yoga studio near by or accessible. Instead this morning I walked down to the lake set up on the dock, meditated for 30 minutes then followed it up with a 30 minute gentle yoga session. After breakfast I hit the hiking trails with my homies and rocked a mountain trail hike for 2 hours. There are always fun ways to get the body moving on vacation, swimming, playing, hiking, make shift yoga- the possibilities are there- it just takes you to open up to them.

4. Own what you need.

I run an online business, I LOVE writing. Just because I’m on vacation doesn’t mean I want to stop doing the things I derive value and joy from. I’m also not going to stop being of service to my community because I’m taking some time off. I set up my business to manage itself for the most part with just a few small check ins throughout my time away. I also communicate to the people I’ll be on vacation with, in advance, what my needs are. When I’m writing and being creative I’m really happy, which is why I do it every day- vacation is no exception. I don’t write because I have to I write because I love to. Big difference. To honour that which I love I just communicate to my peeps that each day at some point I’m going to sneak away for some solo creation time. I usually keep it to about an hour so I still have loads and heaps of time to play and enjoy the company of my amazing friends and family.

5. Enjoy life.

Yes yes yes! Vacations are meant to be fun and to fulfill the purpose of enjoying yourself. Enjoyment means different things to different people so get clear on what things make you super happy to do while you are on vacation and then just do them. I love listening to great music, writing, reading, swimming, tanning, running in nature, hiking, cooking, lounging, watching movies when it rains, eat ice cream, drink really really good vino, laughing, playing cards, creating something new, being a positive contribution to the local community- the list goes on and on. The point is to get to know you so you know exactly what enjoying life looks like and feels like to you!

Ultimately vacations can be an opportunity to further the self love vibes and keep those feel good practices in full swing. You are always the conscious creator of your experience and how things go really depend on one thing- YOU. Get clear on what you need to feel great and what you want to do and experience during your vacation, then communicate this information as clearly as you can to the people around you. Standing in your truth is one of the greatest acts of self love we could ever learn to do on the regular. The great thing is when you have surrounded yourself with the right people, honouring your needs will completely resonate with them and may just inspire them to invite more self lovin into their lives ūüėČ

It is this gift of presence and deep inner calm which has the potential to be transferred into future generations through our own activation of it.

The impact of raising new generations with this new state of awareness is HUGE. We have the opportunity to anchor massive transformation into the history books when we begin to teach our future generations- through our example- that our happiness resides within and we must highly prioritize our own wellbeing- which is where Radical Self Love comes into the mix.

“All About Me Days” Are The BEST- Day 288- 365 Radical Self Love Project

Today has been an all about me day.

I made a choice today to do only things that would nourish my heart and leave me feeling happy and fulfilled- that is what I mean by an all about me day. These days take a tremendous amount of inward reflection and presence,

To know what to do to nourish my heart I have to be tuned into it.

To know what to do to feel at my best I must be present to what I desire.

To know what I need to feel fuelled and fulfilled I have to be aware of what my body is communicating to me and then have the COURAGE to follow the guidance.

So this is what my Radical Self Love Day looked like:

1. This morning instead of pushing myself to wake up early and go to yoga I simply asked my body what it needed. After 5 days of workouts and intensity my body said REST. So I listened. I lounged in bed and I skipped yoga- and savoured every second of my leisurely start to the day.

2. Before heading out for the morning I grounded out in gratitude journalling and some crystal meditation- YUM.

3. I went and met up with a fellow high vibin, soul connected lady friend- gabbed over coffee and inspiration. Self Loving- Absolutely

4. I enjoyed my walk home in the rain and listened to an audio book.

5. I talked to my man mid afternoon- such a lovely surprise! Heart happy?! CHECK

6. I met up with one of my besties and we went on a little shopping adventure. Grabbed a coffee, shared a delicious donut, did some shopping, explored some hidden gem stores we’d never been too, laughed, chatted and completely enjoyed our time connecting.

7. Returned home for some delicious home cooked Moroccan Stew, a lil B-School, some writing and a super chill relaxing night.

Taking the time to do things that nourish your soul is an absolute requirement if we want to really amp up the feelings of happiness, fulfillment and connection to something bigger than ourselves- LOVE.

Make it a regular practice to set aside a few hours each week dedicated only to doing things that just make you freaking happy and stoked on life- the rest of your week will benefit and so will everyone who gets to come into contact with the happy, fulfilled and heart centred YOU.

Beauty- It’s Something That You Just Have To BE- Day 257: 365 Radical Self Love Project

This beautiful speech on beauty was shared with us today at RSL. It was so incredibly inspiring I wanted to share it with you all.

At some point on the path of Radical Self Love we are all faced with looking at our perceptions of beauty. It is within the awareness of these perceptions where we can begin to design new ideas and beliefs around beauty that inspire us, uplift us and empower us to embrace our divinity and greatness.

This video is a most incredible reminder that beauty isn’t something that we get it is something that we are- and we are the only ones who can uncover and radiate our unique beauty out into the world.

Giving Ourselves Permission To Change- Day 231: 365 Radical Self Love Project

Giving ourselves permission to change.

If I had to say there was a dominant theme to this week this would be it.

It has shown up with my clients, it has shown up within the RSL community, the RSL 30 Day Program peeps and it has shown up in me.

Giving ourselves permission to change.

I read an interesting passage this afternoon about health, it stated that approximately 30% of people who are sick actually listen to their doctors advice on how to get better. This got me thinking about how most people go through life addicted to their pain, defined by their problems and completely unwilling to change who they are all the while expecting the world around them to change instead.

Why are so many people who are sick unwilling to do what it takes to heal?

My assumption is that people are willing to stay sick for a few reasons:

change-is-the-essence-of-life-be-willing-to-surrender-what-you-are1. It ensures they maintain the attention of those around them. Think about it. When you are sick you become the centre of attention. People dote on you, they take care of you, they design their lives around you to make you feel better. The ego loves this and is simply not willing to let go of being the centre of attention.

2. Allows people to avoid responsibility. When we are unable to set boundaries, say no or take responsibility for ourselves and our lives we can attract sickness as a way to say no. It gives us an out and we never really have to tell the truth or approach the discomfort of saying no to someone or something.

3. We never have to get real about what is really at the root of our imbalance. This shows up when we treat the symptoms in order to manage the dis-ease instead of doing the internal work to heal. When this happens it is a clear indication that there is an unwillingness to actually feel good. This is the addiction to pain. It is another avoidance mechanism this time to addressing the cause of the imbalance. As humans we have become so removed from the potential we have to feel incredible that we have settled for a quality of life that isn’t exactly comfortable or enjoyable.

Why is this relevant or important to a self love practice?

The ways in which this applies to self love are simple. When we are on the journey of loving ourselves more we will be faced with all the ways in which we haven’t been loving towards ourselves, the places where we must heal to move forward fearlessly and the habitual patterns of behaviour that really only serve one purpose- to keep us stuck.

We become aware of the ways we “get” attention, our patterns of avoidance and our coping mechanisms for our lives. It allows us to take a look at these behaviours from a place of love and compassion.

We all have the capacity to transform and change- the first step is our willingness.

It doesn’t matter if it’s our health, relationships, money, career, soul path what ever area of life we are focused in on these dominant patterns of the ego are going to show up.

How we do anything is how we do everything.

It is when we are ready, able and willing to shine some light on them that the true space for transformation blooms.

The path of Radical Self Love is our own inner journey to awareness. When we are aware of what we do to get attention we can address the underlying needs not being met and design healthy and effective ways to make sure we are receiving what we need. We get to become our own best friends. It is a truly magical process.

Her vulnerability, honesty and openness is truly a gift to everyone who has the pleasure and honour of meeting her. I am so blessed to have her in our RSL community and as a dear friend and sister.

RSL’s Feature Friday: Lysa and Gina! Day 196: 365 Radical Self Love Project

OOOHHHH YAAAAA!! RSL’s FEATURE FRIDAY is back lovers!

To kick off this brand new year I have some very incredible women to introduce you all to!

These beautiful ladies are intuitive coaches who support women in establishing a positive, healthy and empowered relationship to food, their bodies, body image and weight. What we love so much about these ladies is the strong undertone of self love and self acceptance that flows through their work.

Collectively these two have released 40 Kilo’s (about 90 pounds) and have stayed slim for the past 20 years through their application of a self love approach to body image, body healing, health and weight.

 

Their approach to supporting women in their body love journey’s is rooted in their own personal experiences. Their willingness to authentically share their stories, their fears, their challenges and their truth is heart warming and deeply inspiring.

As women we are constantly bombarded with images and messages that we are not enough. The impact of this is a lot of women, myself included, form a dysfunctional relationship to our bodies, our beauty, and our brilliance. Often this takes the form of some type of self harm, whether it be over eating, under eating or debilitating internal talk, the essence of self hatred is there. Lysa and Gina are two beautiful and gorgeous women who have found their way through this experience and who have bravely chosen to use their journey to and through self love to inspire and encourage women to develop a healthy sense of self, an empowering relationship to food and most importantly a beautifully loving relationship towards themselves.

Without knowing the cause or root of why we do what we do our results often are unsustainable. Being highly intuitive Goddesses they gently and boldly explore the emotional and subconscious territory with their clients to lead them through towards a long term sustainable resolution. They teach women how to eat in a loving way, think about themselves in a loving way, and feel their emotions in a compassionate and loving way.

Here are two soul sisters, who have contributed to much positivity, honesty, integrity, compassion, friendship, kindness and love towards us here at Radical Self Love. We are beyond blessed to have these two beauties in our community and spreading the vibes of self love all over the world!

How do I love myself?

As we all some how know, the first step in transforming or changing anything is realizing there is a need for the change. This question illustrates a desire to be better, a desire for a more rich and fulfilling human experience. We all deserve to have a beautiful and fulfilling life and we are the only ones who can actually make that happen.

Here are the 11 fundamental basics when hoping onto the self love train!

The How to for Loving You

1. Make a declaration. This is the ultimate first step. Nothing will change unless you put your foot down and declare that it will. Doing so is an incredibly empowering and powerful act. When you make a declaration of this kind the Universe begins to conspire with you immediately to bring to your awareness evidence of that which you seek, the circumstances most impactful for your growth and evolution and support in so many ways you can’t even imagine!

2. Stop playing the victim.¬†You must, must, must, begin to step out of the blame game. Life isn’t happening to you it is responding to what you are putting out and who you are being moment to moment. You will have to step up and claim 100% responsibility for yourself and your life. If you have experienced hardship (we all have) have compassion with yourself and release yourself from the trap of giving up your power (blaming/playing the victim) and the trap of making yourself wrong for the experiences and circumstances of your life until now. Embracing this wisdom “we are always doing the best we can with the tools we have” helps to diffuse the ego and surrender into the expansiveness of the human experience.

images-33. Build up your muscles of seeking good. We all can get better at this. Even the top leaders in the world can seek out the worst in things- however, they make a conscious choice not too. They instead know their energy is better invested into seeking the good, finding the underlying lesson inside of contrast and viewing the world through the lens of possibility and love.

4. Quiet your mind. An over active untrained mind will always default to worrying, anxiety and fear. You do have the power to shift that pattern. Sit with yourself once a day and be still, be quiet, experience solitude. If there is a lot of healing to do being with yourself sans distractions will most likely be uncomfortable at first. So create an environment of success and start small. Almost everyone can sit in silence with themselves for 2 minutes a day. Start there. When you feel a calmness and sense of peace enter your stillness increase your time. Doing so will support you in building a successful meditation practice.

5. Take care of your body. This is your vessel for experiencing the world. Treat it with love and respect. Be mindful of what you put into your body and create the time to physically move your body each day. This might mean giving up late night TV in exchange for being able to get up earlier in the day or rock a workout after your day is done. Move your body, stretch, relax and nurture your body. Feed yourself with high vibrational food as often as possible. No one else is going to do this for you. Step it up.

6. Learn how to think. Begin the process of cultivating stronger more positive thought patterns. Mental activity and idle thought does not count as thinking. Thinking is consciously directing your thought and energy patterns to be in alignment with the life you desire and your intended outcome. If you are desiring financial abundance and the only thing you constantly focus on in your thoughts is your perceived lack, your thoughts are out of alignment with what you want. You must train yourself to do this. Begin by bringing your awareness to your thoughts. Take notice of the general theme. From there you can dive into the world of programming positive and building constructive thought patterns.

7. Give up self defeating and diminishing talk. The way you speak to yourself is the invitation you send out into the world for how you want to be treated. Stop being so hard on yourself- speak kindly within and without. If you said the things out loud to others that you say to yourself you would most likely not have many friends left. So why oh why would you speak to yourself like that? You are a beautiful being and deserve love and kindness. Being hard on you only tanks your energy and diminishes your ability to love yourself and others.

Be of service.¬†Taking the focus of the ego’s drama via service of others is the quickest way to open your heart more and connect you with the innate goodness within everyone and everything. Whether it is opening the door for a stranger, volunteering your time and energy, creating art, making a friend dinner, smiling at a stranger on the street- being of service activates the heart in the most extraordinary ways.

9. Build up a daily discipline. Self love is a practice and a daily discipline. It takes showing up each and every day as your best version. This muscle is built through building constructive daily disciplines. Commit to yourself and design a routine that empowers you. My daily discipline is simple- invest minimum 30 minutes into learning/personal development (#6), drinking minimum one litre of water a day and either writing, reflecting or speaking my gratitude. These daily disciplines keep my vibes high, my energy in alignment and inspire me to take empowered actions throughout the day.

10. Acknowledge others. What you do unto others you have already done to yourself. Sometimes it is easier to notice the goodness others are up to so do it. It feels good to share your acknowledgement and it ensures the other person feels seen, appreciated and valued. In turn you unknowingly cultivate those same feelings about yourself when you give another person your appreciation. These moments can change a life and sometimes save one. Do more, share more and leave a lasting imprint of love everywhere you go.

11. Acknowledge yourself. This will have multiple positive impacts. It will help you break away from the addiction we all have of seeking validation and approval of others. It will also ensure you are always acknowledged for the greatness you are beaming out into the world each day. Lastly it will boost your confidence and your knowingness that you are a capable, competent, brilliant and incredible human- which is where the growth of self love will stem from.
