Unravelling The Ultimate Ego Sabotage Through Self Love-Day 365: 365 Radical Self Love Project

Holy shitballs I did it!!!

radical self love projectSuccessfully completed writing one self love blog post every day for an entire YEAR!!!! There are so many things I could write about today and I have given careful and thoughtful consideration for them all.

  • I considered writing the highlights of the year.
  • I considered writing the top lessons of the year.
  • I considered not writing much at all- total honesty and transparency 😉
  • I considered writing a simple celebratory post.
  • I considered just writing another self love lesson.
  • I considered sharing the impact of a year of self love on my relationship.

All of these were great however they didn’t feel quite right. Today is a significant day for me. For the past few years I have been levelling up and giving myself these “challenges” in order to grow and expand the person I know myself to be. This 365 Day RSL blog project was no exception.

To show up and create a blog post every day for an entire year took some serious commitment and dedication. It took bravery, honesty, transparency. It required me to face my shadow and deal with my shit. It called me to step into my role as a leader and a teacher and really own my place in the world. This project supported me in getting clear on who I am and what I am truly meant to be doing in the world. And it brought me face to face with my biggest supporter and my biggest nemesis- and coming to the profound realization that both happened to be me.

Today’s post I am going to share the biggest transformation that has taken place over the past year.

Unravelling The Ultimate Ego Sabotage Through Self Love

In one year I’ve done a hell of a lot of healing, forgiving, loving and moving forward.

But there was one thing that has held me back in all areas of my life and in the span of this project I was brought face to face with this disempowering mechanism. This is what I call “the ultimate ego sabotage” and I have had the opportunity to look it in the face with loving and kind eyes and find ways to gently and lovingly put it to rest.

That sabotage was an old familiar story of “not feeling like it”. How many times in my life have I used this line as a way to manipulate, get out of commitments and generally not show up for life? More than I can count.

Giving my word to a project of this magnitude brought me face to face with this disempowering habit every single day. Yes every single day it reared it’s face. Some days more than others but it always did.

radicalselfloveMy new self love habitual patterns were the only saving grace. If I had allowed my ego’s justifications or behaviours to run the show I would have quit. Something would have stopped me along the way. But because of my solid Radical Self Love foundation I was able to maintain my commitment even in the most challenging of times.

In my past my ego didn’t have to work very hard to get me to stop going down the path of transformation. It would pull the “oh I’m tired” excuse or something very similar and that would be enough of a reason to not show up for life.

As I grew and expanded my awareness my ego took to instigating physical pains in attempts to prevent me from showing up somewhere that would inevitably be a cause for my further transformation. The most memorable occurance of this function showed up a few years ago when I was heading out to be a production supervisor for the Advanced Course through Landmark Education. This role at the time called me to step up and lead a team of peeps and also create the space for all the people in the seminar to feel safe to dive into their own transformation- not an easy role by far. The morning of I was leaving my house and literally tripped over my own feet and fell down the steep stairs of my house. In the past this would have been enough for me to not show up- but I had done enough work to get acquainted with my ego that I knew it was just trying to take me out in any way possible to avoid my own immanent growth. Pretty bold stuff.

This year brought me into a whole new level of understanding my tricky ego. The function remains the same it’s just the measures and characteristics that change. Writing a self love blog every day for a year stretched me. Some days the words flowed, inspiration was at an all time high and some days it was fucking hard. I was emotional, my world was crashing around me and some how I managed to pull it together long enough to get real, get transparent and transform. In this year I have come to learn my ego’s new game is to take things incredibly personal.

I honestly at times couldn’t believe just how ridiculous I was being but somehow I couldn’t manage to stop it- that is until I realized this behaviour was a new form of my old ego friend. Once I became aware of this mechanism I was able to notice it’s take over sooner and become less reactive and more responsive to life.

This self love blog was ultimate training in playing bigger, creating something from nothing and standing for something way greater than myself. I knew my key to healing my heart was rooted in finding something I cared more about than the pain I was feeling. That “something” is this community, that “something” is supporting people in having more deliciously juicy relationships to themselves, to their lives and to the people in their lives. That “something” is self love.

How To Keep Up The Self Lovin On Vacation- Day 364: 365 Radical Self Love Project

radical self love kelsey grantVacations used to mean a free for all in my world- reckless abandon for my routines, health and well being. My late teens and early 20’s were seriously dedicated to being the life of the party and testing my body and mind to push to the limits of what was possible and healthy.

Having been consciously immersed into the world of Radical Self Love for the past year and a half my approach to vacations has dramatically shifted as well. Over the past year and a half I have come to really understand I love feeling good. My habits and routines are in place not to limit me or restrict me but to empower me into feeling good more of the time.

Eating really crappy food isn’t really much of a exciting thing anymore as my body reacts pretty intensely to large amounts of processed foods. Now this isn’t to say I never indulge. Of course I do- I just don’t over do it like I used to. Vacations used to be the time when I really would go over board and justify it to myself because hell, I was on vacation.

With my ever growing self confidence, self love and self value I’ve created a new way of vacationing for myself that clearly works and has me continue to rock out as my high vibin self.

How to keep up the self lovin on vacation

1. Pre planning.

A little planning goes a long way. In the case of this particular vacation the day before we left I was finishing up a 3.5 day juice cleanse. Knowing my body would have to be eased back into whole foods I made a declaration to our crew that I would be responsible for my own eats and then I did a little meal planning. I found a local natural/whole food market in one of the towns we drove through and stocked up on organic local produce and gentle whole foods that would compliment my cleanse and be easy to prepare.

Back in the day I likely would have had the same desire to eat clean but I would have been way to self conscious and insecure of voice my desires. What I learned this time around is no one else really cared that I wanted to do my own thing nor did anyone negatively question me. Because I owned it from a place of peace, inner alignment and love my positive inention was picked up by my peeps and respected.

2. Find the local gems.

Do a little research either before arriving or when you get there to suss out places that are in alignment with your lifestyle. Conveniently there is a raw, vegan, gluten free bakery literally down the street from where we are staying. We are in a seriously small town and I still managed to find an alternative that allows me to enjoy dessert just in a super healthy capacity. The gems are always around- it’s up to you to find them.

3. Stay active- just change it up.

My body is used to regular movement and exercise however often on vacation there isn’t a gym or yoga studio near by or accessible. Instead this morning I walked down to the lake set up on the dock, meditated for 30 minutes then followed it up with a 30 minute gentle yoga session. After breakfast I hit the hiking trails with my homies and rocked a mountain trail hike for 2 hours. There are always fun ways to get the body moving on vacation, swimming, playing, hiking, make shift yoga- the possibilities are there- it just takes you to open up to them.

4. Own what you need.

I run an online business, I LOVE writing. Just because I’m on vacation doesn’t mean I want to stop doing the things I derive value and joy from. I’m also not going to stop being of service to my community because I’m taking some time off. I set up my business to manage itself for the most part with just a few small check ins throughout my time away. I also communicate to the people I’ll be on vacation with, in advance, what my needs are. When I’m writing and being creative I’m really happy, which is why I do it every day- vacation is no exception. I don’t write because I have to I write because I love to. Big difference. To honour that which I love I just communicate to my peeps that each day at some point I’m going to sneak away for some solo creation time. I usually keep it to about an hour so I still have loads and heaps of time to play and enjoy the company of my amazing friends and family.

5. Enjoy life.

Yes yes yes! Vacations are meant to be fun and to fulfill the purpose of enjoying yourself. Enjoyment means different things to different people so get clear on what things make you super happy to do while you are on vacation and then just do them. I love listening to great music, writing, reading, swimming, tanning, running in nature, hiking, cooking, lounging, watching movies when it rains, eat ice cream, drink really really good vino, laughing, playing cards, creating something new, being a positive contribution to the local community- the list goes on and on. The point is to get to know you so you know exactly what enjoying life looks like and feels like to you!

radical self love kelsey grant

Ultimately vacations can be an opportunity to further the self love vibes and keep those feel good practices in full swing. You are always the conscious creator of your experience and how things go really depend on one thing- YOU. Get clear on what you need to feel great and what you want to do and experience during your vacation, then communicate this information as clearly as you can to the people around you. Standing in your truth is one of the greatest acts of self love we could ever learn to do on the regular. The great thing is when you have surrounded yourself with the right people, honouring your needs will completely resonate with them and may just inspire them to invite more self lovin into their lives 😉

3 Day Juice Cleanse, 2 Songs and A Whole Lotta Love- Day 350: 365 Radical Self Love Project

Today wraps up my time in Victoria.

The past three days have been jammed full of creative expression, full on creation, cleansing and so much love.

I chose to do a gentle juice cleanse while I was recording for a few reasons.

  1. When I’m juicing I feel so much lighter and brighter. This is optimal when going into a state of creation. To feel bright and clear makes the entire process that much more enjoyable.
  2. Additionally it fills me up with raw life force energy, which is the pure energy of love. When I’m juicing I find it quite easy to dip into deep states of meditation and I am much jollier. Gratitude radiates out of me and I go with the flow so much more.
  3. I also have a stable levels of energy which is really required when doing work of this nature because it is so energetically consuming.

In this state of super high vibes I am in very clear alignment with my creativity. Which makes recording music a lot easier and enjoyable.

In all my years of writing and recording music this by far was the most incredible and enjoyable process. I just got to be in my flow and the results speak for themselves. Without the pressures of “perfection” I could relax, get into alignment and allow the musical magic to flow through.

I spent about 5 hours in total recording both songs. I recorded the guitar, main vocals and background vocals for both and to do so in such a short amount of time seriously impressed me. We spent today in post production land mixing and putting the finishing touches on both of the tunes- and I am so pumped with how they turned out.

I headed out to a meeting just as the songs were being finished and when I came back to listen to the final product I was blown away. So freaking pumped and honestly really proud of myself and the amazing job I did. Listening to the guitar I was really impressed with how good it sounds and gave myself some serious credit for how far I’ve come in my playing in the past 6 years.

All in all this trip was exactly what my soul needed. I cleansed out the body, opened up to massive amounts of creative energy and allowed love in in a major way. The time I was so blessed to spend with my family, warmed my heart and spiked my energy even higher.

As I return home today I am tired but feel so damn alive and in alignment. So very excited for the next chapter of this crazy awesome adventure called my life 😉

Family Fun Date- Day 349: 365 Radical Self Love Project

After a very successful day 2 of recording we celebrated by doing a family dinner with our Vic crew.

The evening kicked off with a trip to the Sidney Market where we got to soak up all the local goodness.

We ran into some old friends and opted for some hugs and giggles.

image 3Then we gathered a bunch of local produce and headed to the LJC Art/Print Studio for some great evening vibes.

The crew made a fabulous dinner. I had the honour of having some soul to soul chats with my brothers, celebrating in each other’s successes, listening to some new musical creations and meeting new friends.

It was so good for my soul to have this much needed family reconnection time, share some big hearty laughs and be reminded of how incredible our family tribe truly is.

Feeling good, feeling full on life, feeling so deeply grateful!

Summer Season = Summer Food: Kitchen Creations- Day 344: 365 Radical Self Love Project

Ahhh I’m so stoked the summer season is upon us.

Today in Vancouver we were blessed with a gloriously amazing, sunny and warm day. On days like this I am reminded summer is closely approaching and eating brighter and lighter is a fabulous part of the summertime vibe.

Something shifts in my body when it gets warm out- I automatically gravitate to cooler foods and lighter dishes. Salads and fish are staples in my summer diet. Tonight I decided to make coconut-lime crusted halibut with a mango salsa salad! It was super easy to prepare.

Coconut-Lime Crusted Halibut With Mango Salsa

Halibut:

I mixed together 1/2 cup of coconut milk, 1 tbsp agave nectar and 2 tbsp fresh lime juice. I coated the halibut steaks in the coconut milk mixture then sprinkled them with untoasted coconut.

I heated a pan over medium heat and coated the pan with 2 tbps’s of olive oil.

I placed the coconut crusted halibut into the pan and cooked for about 15 minutes, browning both sides

Salsa:

2 Mango’s chopped
1 Avocado chopped
2 Tomatos chopped
small handful of thinly sliced red onion
large handful of chopped cilantro
1 small habenaro pepper chopped (only used half the seeds)

I mixed all the chopped ingredients in a bowl and squeezed fresh lime juice of half a lime.

Salad:

Mixed greens.

To assemble:

Mixed greens on the base of the plate. Then I added half of the mango salsa on top of the greens. I then gently placed the halibut steak on top and topped with a small spoonful of mango salsa as a pretty garnish!

Yummmmy!

Super stoked to enjoy this beauty of a meal, with a nice crisp white wine and the amazing company of my man 🙂

Starting The Day By Nourishing The Soul- The Importance Of A Daily Self Love Routine-Day 334: 365 Radical Self Love Project

“How things go depends on how they start”- these are lyrics from one of my original songs and one of my mottos in life.

(If you want to listen you can do that HERE)

I have found this rings true in relationships- the relationships starting off on the grounds of truth, honesty and love always go in that same direction, like wise the relationships I’ve had that started off as secrets, with lots of lies or lack of integrity ended up going further in those directions.

I have also found in my day to day this motto is also true. When I invest into myself and my wellbeing first thing in the morning it sets the tone for the remainder of the day. Days when I rock my soul-nourishing morning routine I am happier, I am more effective with my time, I am way more productive and I am way easier to get along with.

radical self love kelsey grant

As I keep stepping into my power and truth it becomes more and more clear that the foundation of my success is deeply rooted in my willingness to nourish my soul, take actions which bring me into vibrational alignment and setting intentions around the direction of my day.

When I first stepped into the world of spirituality and personal development I learned exactly what those specific actionables were that would have me be at my best. After years of testing, trial and assessment I lasered in on the top “actions” that would lead me feeling nourished and in the highest vibrational alignment.

Why is this nourishment and alignment so important?

In the words of Abraham Hicks: “That which is like unto itself is drawn” meaning energies which are in alignment are magnetized and pulled towards each other.

When I take the time every morning to get my vibes as high as possible (my best/highest vibrational alignment varies from day to day) I ensure that I put myself on the best possible path for the day. Meaning when my vibes are optimal I attract amazing people, circumstances and opportunities. I also get to experience the blissful power of flow- where I can trust the Universe has my back and relax into allowing things to unfold naturally.

Soul-Nourishment

When I don’t do my soul nourishment in the morning I am higher strung, way more stressed out, combative, irritable, impatient and I attract people, situations and circumstances that I don’t want to be experiencing.

The only reason I experiencing anything I do, is because I am a vibrational match.

The only way to change what I am attracting or experiencing is to change my vibes. How do I change my vibes? I take actions that are in alignment with nourishing my heart, my soul, my body and my mind.

This is what my soul nourishing/Radical Self Love routine looks like:

  •  Leisurely awake
  •  Spend 5-15 minutes doing some positive self reflection and positive life reflection (just thinking of positive aspects)
  • Gratitude journal minimum one page
  • 6 Minutes of Ego Harmonizing (breath work/meditation)
  • RSL Mantra Meditation/ Inner Guide chit chat
  • Drink 500ml-1litre water
  • I usually add in exercise but some days I do my exercise later in the day and I do take a day or two off a week to rest my body.

These are the things I know I must do each morning to keep myself in tip top shape mentally, physically, emotionally and spiritually. All of these actionables are vibe aligners which always bring me to the most exciting, fulfilling and incredible places, spaces and circumstances life has to offer.

In our 30 Day Radical Self Love Program we meticulously designed a 30 Day Journey that is accessible and attainable for even the busiest of busy people. In my opinion when we glorify being busy it is often a way to avoid doing the things we need to do most but maybe don’t want to do because they are uncomfortable, take energy and time. Investing into yourself in these ways will make you way more productive and happy in the long run and really thats what we are up to here at RSL- setting people up for success in life and love. It all starts within and it all starts with you ❤

Some Days You Just Gotta Have Ice Cream Before Dinner-Day 331: 365 Radical Self Love Project

We just arrived back home from our little mini vacation on the magical island of Salt Spring.

radical self love kelsey grantDue to some technical difficulties we weren’t able to rock our ice-cream intention while being away. So upon getting off the ferry when deciding upon dinner tonight, ice-cream was the obvious and most logical choice 😉

We decided to shake things up and get ice cream before dinner. And it was absolutely glorious!

It also lead me to ponder a few things:

1. How often do we just do things because we think we should? The majority of the time I go through my life eating sensibly and intentionally and most certainly fuel up my body with high vibing food first and if I still feel like the sweets or snacks then I will indulge after. But some days we gotta break our own rules a little- live spontaneously and just go for it.

2. To achieve harmony and balance it is important to indulge first from time to time. Building on reflection number one, if we are always adhering to our strict rules and regimens we loose touch with the dynamic and free flow of life. Likewise if we play too much on the free flow end we never really get anywhere since we are too busy flitting from one thing to the next. To ensure a healthy sense of balance between the two a shake up of our routines is required- whatever those “routines” might be.

Today’s insight, let loose, let go and have fun with life. Be playful and goofy. From time to time do something out of your ordinary and shake up your paradigm. Doing so will flood your experience with the warm, playful and inviting energy that causes us to be at ease with life, at ease with ourselves and at ease in the gloriousness of love.

And now…it’s time for dinner 😉

A Weekend On A Magical Island-Day 329: 365 Radical Self Love Project

A weekend on our favourite island

This morning we left for a glorious long weekend adventure to our fav island- Salt Spring.

It is abundant with life, nature and so so so quiet. Living in the city where it can get pretty loud and chaotic it is so fabulous to have a get away spot so close to home.

For the next few days we’ll be offline for the most part with a couple hop ons to share some of our magical adventures 🙂

We arrived on Salty this afternoon and took our leisurely time heading to a cute coffee shop, getting lost in an amazing old book store for a while, picking up some groceries from my favourite health food market and now we have just made it to our amazingly cute cabin.

old-growth-forest-300x208We are right in the forest, birds are chirping, there is a beautiful garden off of our patio and we can see the water from our front porch. It’s quiet, the owners are so friendly, their dogs are affectionate and we are ready to decompress!

Let the reconnecting and frolicking in nature begin!!

Lots of love to you all for this May long weekend! xo

A Walk Down Memory Lane- Covering “Better Life”- Day 323: 365 Radical Self Love Project

Last week at the workshop I taught I pulled an example of how being rooted in a self love and self care practiced prepped me for one of the biggest performances I had done solo at the Calgary Stampede.

Prior to this performance I had never really established a pre-show self care ritual.

Before this game changing performance I did a couple things differently than I usually had.

1. No caffiene- Lets face it as much as I love coffee it does give me the jitters some times- especially when I’m already in an environment where I was prone to being nervous- so I cut it from my morning ritual.

2. High intensity exercise. I went for an early morning summer run to get out any excess anxiety or nervouseness that was there for me.

3. I did a 40 minute meditation, outside sitting on a massive rock (for ultimate grounding) and beside a lake to calm my emotions.

4. I drank a litre of raw green juice. I knew if I wanted to be at my best and the greatest expression of love I needed to put the highest vibin fuel into my body.

These four steps forever changed my experience of performing. For the first time in my entire career of performing live (25 years at this point) I was completely calm before I stepped onto the stage, I was also at peace with whatever was going to happen post performance (I was in a competition).

In the spirit of this magical trip down memory lane I wanted to share with you all the audition song I submitted that landed me in the competition at the Calgary Stampede in front of a crowd of nearly 3000 people. It’s my version of Keith Urbans tune “Better Life”.

Enjoy!

Self Love Sundays- Day 317: 365 Radical Self Love Project

Sunday’s are one of my most favourite days of the week. They are my day for me. I take time to do the things that bring me joy and really set the tone for the week ahead! Today was such a wonderful and perfect day and here is a little recap of how I rock my self lovin Sundays!

Self Love Sunday

I slept in, stayed snuggled in my bed and did some reading and gratitude journalling to start the day.

I made a super food berry smoothy and had a high vibin chat with my roomie.

I showered, got ready and sat down for a nice self love meditation.

I headed to one of my favourite coffee shops, grabbed an americano and wrote 1.5 chapters of the ebook.

Next I braved the crazy busy Whole Foods Market and scooped up some juicy, organic eats for dinner.

I then came home popped in a very girly movie and cooked.

I made a delicious butternut and sweet potato soup from scratch, marinated organic chicken on a bed of fresh greens and a rhubarb peach crisp with raw cashew cream to top it.

Then I sat down had dinner with my man and now we are about to enjoy a super chill night together.

Life is so amazing and when I take one day a week to just do the things that bring my soul joy I set myself up emotionally, physically and energetically for a fabulous week ahead! As an addition to any Radical Self Love routine regular self love dates/check ins are needed.

When I take this precious time to connect with what makes me happy I’m a much more pleasant person to hang around with (I’m usually pretty jolly but when I take this time I increase my capacity to be patient, compassionate and kind in the face of challenging circumstances). I take care of myself so that I can better hold space and take care of those around me who may need support and guidance. When I invest into me this way my work thrives. My writing is better and I feel more inspired to take bold and courageous actions in my life- which ultimately leads me to manifesting my dreams and hearts desires.

Choose one day a week where you can invest at least an hour into your self care and self love. The world becomes a better place when you do 🙂
